The new residence hall, NJCU West Campus Village, will be the first facility to be built on the 22 acre redevelopment site known as NJCU West Campus. In this building, the shallow depth of DELTABEAM® allowed the design team at Niles Bolton Associates to achieve a higher ceiling with more open space.

To simplify the construction process, High Concrete Structures LLC utilized Peikko’s PCs® Corbel to connect DELTABEAM® to their precast concrete columns. The hidden connection lead to a fast and clean installation without requiring welding or bolting on site.

Edward J. Tramontana, President of Construction Consultant Services, immediately saw the benefits of utilizing DELTABEAM® in this project as explained below.

The type of structures I have managed ranged from parking garages, high rises, academies, dorms and student centers to name a few. In most of these structures the architect tries to avoid interruption along the ceiling surface. With the current precast methods, the supports / ledges in which the floor members “rest on” are usually below the ceiling.

Below are a few items illustrating the unit’s benefits:
1. Aesthetics
2. Eliminates Interference with above ceiling HVAC, electrical duct banks, etc.
3. The unit can be placed in one step with no required welding.
4. Lighter in weight than most precast/prestressed concrete units.

In summary, the DELTABEAM® unit was easy to manage and quick to set in place.
