Fredens Tårn - a high-rise building inspired by the local landscape.

In the heart of Silkeborg’s historic city center, a new landmark is taking shape. As part of the development of the new Fredensgård district, Fredens Tårn is rising – a 70-meter tower with commercial spaces at ground level and 70 residential units distributed across 19 floors. Designed by Sweco Architects, the building draws inspiration from Silkeborg’s surrounding nature and the city’s unique character. Like a tree firmly rooted in the forest floor, the tower is anchored in the new courtyard block, while staggered volumes, recessed balconies, and set-back floors create a dynamic façade with green rooftop gardens and sweeping views of the surrounding woodland.

In addition to the tower, three adjoining buildings are being constructed as part of the development. Together, they form a cohesive block with a mix of housing and commercial space along Fredensgade, Christian 8’s Vej, and Torvet, all supported by a two-level underground parking facility spanning the entire complex.

For the foundation of the tower, Enggaard has chosen to use PSB®-J shear reinforcement which is a headed anchor with a forged head at one end and bent hook at the other end. It was used for both the crane foundation and the base slab – 540 and 2,900 units respectively. The decision to implement the PSB solution was made both to save time and to ensure a safer working environment. As project manager Andreas Rasmussen, A. Enggard A/S notes: “It took two workers just three hours to install the 540 PSB units for the crane foundation, and I have allocated two workers for a single day to install the 2,900 units for the base slab.”
